In recent years, the number of art galleries in Hong Kong has been increasing and hence suggesting a substantial degree prosperity in the art industry.  It is seemed that “Hong Kong” has more to do with “Arts” now: the proposed West Kowloon Cultural District by the Government and the privately-invested ART HK; nevertheless, it is just the third time I participate in a joint exhibition held by a local commercial gallery in the name of an artist during this decade after my graduation. All of my works before this remain unsold. I have been wondering what kinds of artistic works Hong Kong people want to buy from commercial galleries. In this exhibition, I will present a piece of sculpture work made by used wood crates (which is the material commonly found in my works) and recycled umbrella fabrics, in which I worked again with housewives collaboratively. This piece of work almost does not conform with the mode of operation of local commercial galleries; so will it be accepted by the market so that the “tree” will not only give out air but also hope? So can garbage simply become a phoenix? And after all, what lies at the root of art in Hong Kong? Maybe, we could just take a sit under the tree and have a deep ponder.

Remark: 20% from artist portion will go to support Hong Kong Women Workers' Association if the work were sold.

降落傘

車衣女工,回收雨傘布,工業電風扇,曼佳美燈,藝術家收藏舊物

這系列作品邀請香港婦女勞工協會的車衣女工與我將回收來的雨傘布創作成非功用性降落傘。作品同時在香港的商業畫廊、商店、藝術場地和深圳博物館展出,不止道出社會經濟轉變與藝術的關係,更重要的是希望讓公眾在不同的場合/域下經驗藝術作品帶來的思考:我們的城市、人文藝術是如何建立的,還是一夜之間從天而降呢?

其他作品同期在:YY9 畫廊,曼佳美灣仔陳列室,深圳何香凝藝術館展出。

之前曾在德國漢堡文化區以及香港公共屋苑降落。
