Jaffa Lam (b. 1973, Hong Kong) creates site-specific sculptures and installations made from recycled materials such as crate wood, old furniture, and recycled fabric. She simultaneously explores local culture, history, society, and current events. A Piece of History of the Moon is a blue canopy structure made from recycled umbrella fabrics sewn together. For this, Lam collaborated with the Hong Kong Women Workers’ Association, a group of female former garment factory workers. This approach, combined with her use of found and recycled materials, results in sculptures and installations that address such topics as labour, identity, and collectivity.

Jaffa Lam maakt (°1973, Hong Kong) locatie-specifieke sculpturen en installaties van gerecycleerde materialen zoals krattenhout, oud meubilair en gerecycleerde stof. Ze onderzoekt tegelijk lokale cultuur, geschiedenis, samenleving en actualiteit. A Piece of History of the Moon is een blauwe luifelstructuur gemaakt van gerecyclede paraplustoffen die aan elkaar zijn genaaid. Lam werkt hiervoor samen met de Hong Kong Women Workers' Association, een groepering van vrouwelijke voormalige kledingfabriek arbeiders. Deze aanpak, gecombineerd met haar gebruik van gevonden en gerecyclede materialen, resulteert in sculpturen en installaties die thema's als arbeid, identiteit en collectiviteit behandelen.
