Drawing is a healing shelter, a handy container and flexible space to catch the idea directly, which reflects the current sensibility, emotion, and condition of the artist through the performance of the body and response of the material.
素描是一種治癒避難所,最直接的思想投射盛載物,將當時的心情/心態透過肢體的靈敏度和物料的反應,呈現在最隨手捻來的盛載物上或是空間之中。
Lam Laam, Jaffa (b. 1973, China, Base in Hong Kong) received her BFA, MFA and Postgraduate Diploma in Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
She specializes in large-scaled site-specific works of mixed media sculptural installations, which are mainly made with recycled materials. She has been involved in many public sculptural and community projects in Hong Kong and overseas, including Japan, Kenya, Taiwan, Bangladesh, America, Canada and France. Her “Micro Economic” and other public/community projects often explore issues relating to local culture, history, society and current affairs, some of the topics include art in public, the loss of craftsmanship in the city, and the regeneration of the art making cycle. She projects views and thoughts of ordinary people through her non-narrative and dialogical installations.
She received the Desiree and Hans Michael Jebsen Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council in 2006. Combining the Urban Glass Followership and the Tree Museum’s invitation, she stayed in North American for the “Art in Public” research and creation for eight months in 2007. She was invited to take part in the Fukutake House Project of the Setouchi Triennale in Japan in 2013, Hong Kong Week in Taiwan in 2015, China 8 in German in 2015, Wuzhen International Contemporary Art Exhibition in 2016 and Lyon Lumieres in 2018.
In 2017, she received the commendation award presented by the Secretary of Home Affairs for her contributions to the promotion of arts and culture. She is now the Academic Head of Hong Kong Art School.
